Cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) is a unique and powerful treatment that can minimize withdrawal symptoms, accelerate cognitive improvement, and decrease cravings. Amazingly there are almost no side effects. The Arbor utiliizes a hand-held, CES device all the Alpha-Stim®.
Alpha-Stim® SCS
The Alpha-Stim® SCS treats depression, anxiety, and/or insomnia with tiny electrical currents similar to those found in the body naturally. The treatment is simple and self-administered. The current is applied by easy-to-use clip electrodes that attach to your ear lobes.
Cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) has been FDA approved since 1976 for depression, anxiety, and insomnia. These problems are almost frequently present in the early stages of recovery. There has been a significant amount of research in the use of CES in chemical dependency. In one study, opiate addicted patients who are using CES had almost no withdrawal symptoms and used significantly less detox medication. Another study measured how rapidly the brains cognitive function improved with or without CES. The results of that study showed what would typically take one year to improve without CES was accomplished in one month with CES. This type of research has powerful implications when considering the struggles a person suffering from chemical dependency experiences when trying to “choose” not to engage in drug use after they leave treatment and return to the community. By improving the brain’s cognitive functioning, the chances for success are increased. It is highly recommended that clients continue using the Alpha-Stim® as part of their post-treatment recovery program.
