Neurological Sciences at The Arbor

Thank you for visiting The Arbor website. If you or your loved one is suffering from chemical dependency and addiction, you have come to the right place to build a foundation for  recovery that will be successful and permanent.  At The Arbor, you will receive the tools and support necessary to heal your body, mind, and soul.

First and foremost, it is important that you understand that addiction is a disease. Just like asthma is a disease of the lungs, coronary artery disease is a disease of the heart, and hepatitis is a disease of the liver, addiction and chemical dependency are diseases of the brain.  If you or your loved one is addicted to alcohol and/or drugs  there are real physical, permanent changes that have occurred in the brain. Because of a combination of genetics and the environment,  the chronic lifelong disease of chemical dependency and addiction has been activated in the brain. This is the bad news.

The good news is that the brain is strong and resilient, the mind can be taught, and the soul can always begin the search for peace again. My job at The Arbor is to protect and heal the brain as you or your loved one begin the journey to recovery. The scientific and medical community has seen unprecedented advances in understanding how addiction works in the brain and what we can do to heal and recover. I value the time-proven approach of complete sobriety and a lifelong twelve-step journey. I will add to that the newest, evidence-based, scientific treatments as tools that will maximize the potential for success.

The Arbor’s 15 month recovery program combined with  state-of-the-art neurological sciences provide the most comprehensive treatment available for chemical dependency, dual disorders and other addictions.

Regards,

Dr. Harold F. Adelman
